\u00bfQu\u00e9 tienen en com\u00fan Chile, Jap\u00f3n y Ecuador? algo quiz\u00e1 no muy positivo, ya que son tres pa\u00edses propensos a grandes terremotos, son zonas de subducci\u00f3n, en las cuales las placas tect\u00f3nicas se mueven una contra otra. Esta caracter\u00edstica implica una particularidad en la licuaci\u00f3n de los suelos, afectando la calidad de \u00e9stos para infraestructuras actuales y futuras.<\/p>\n

No fue hasta despu\u00e9s del terremoto de 27\/F en Chile, que se comenz\u00f3 a investigar este aspecto de la licuaci\u00f3n de los suelos en las llamadas zonas de subducci\u00f3n. \u201cAntes del 2010 era materia de discusi\u00f3n, algunos ingenieros chilenos estaban convencidos que pod\u00eda haber licuaci\u00f3n y muchos otros que no, que en nuestro pa\u00eds ya hab\u00edan ocurrido muchos terremotos, por lo que los suelos ya estaban consolidados y que por lo tanto no pod\u00eda haber licuaci\u00f3n. Cuando vino el terremoto del 2010 se zanj\u00f3 toda duda, porque hubo una gran cantidad de licuaci\u00f3n<\/strong>\u201d, explica Gonzalo Montalva, acad\u00e9mico del Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Civil de la Facultad de Ingenier\u00eda UdeC e investigador del N\u00facleo Milenio Cyclo.<\/p>\n

Esta investigaci\u00f3n es parte de un proyecto Fondef que se encuentra en su segunda y \u00faltima etapa y que se maneja en conjunto con el Ministerio de Obras P\u00fablicas, una consultora privada y con instituciones de Estados Unidos, Jap\u00f3n y Ecuador, tiene como principal objetivo evaluar las mejores alternativas para dise\u00f1ar estructuras de todo tipo en suelos licuables gracias a los an\u00e1lisis que entrega el equipo SCPTu Siesmic Cone Penetration Test, CPT.<\/p>\n

El problema de licuaci\u00f3n en los suelos se produce tanto por la sismicidad de subducci\u00f3n que afecta a Chile y a los pa\u00edses con los que se est\u00e1 trabajando en el proyecto. La licuaci\u00f3n provoca incertidumbre en las construcciones y un costo elevado de la misma, por ello la importancia del proyecto y del equipo CPT \u201ccompramos este equipo y la idea de este es caracterizar mejor estos sitios de manera de poder evaluar y salir de dudas y proponer una metodolog\u00eda que sea m\u00e1s eficiente para todo Chile<\/strong>\u201d comenta Montalva.<\/p>\n

La intenci\u00f3n es, que con los ensayos y an\u00e1lisis que realice el equipo CPT, crear una plataforma p\u00fablica en la que se entregue informaci\u00f3n acerca de las caracter\u00edsticas de los suelos y en base a ellas planificar construcciones de todo tipo con la metodolog\u00eda y materiales adecuados y as\u00ed ahorrar tiempo y dinero y a la vez construir con seguridad.<\/p>\n

El equipo, que fue dise\u00f1ado especialmente para las necesidades del proyecto, puede estudiar el suelo de manera continua y mucho mejor que otros equipos similares en Chile, puede evaluar la rigidez del suelo y tiene la posibilidad de ponerle una c\u00e1mara y as\u00ed grabar los procedimientos que se hagan con el equipo. A su vez, el equipo entrega a los estudiantes de Ingenier\u00eda UdeC conocimientos con la \u00faltima tecnolog\u00eda en relaci\u00f3n a las caracter\u00edsticas del suelo y c\u00f3mo trabajar con \u00e9l.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAl tener el equipo el costo de operaci\u00f3n es s\u00faper bajo entonces podemos hacer muchos ensayos y esa es la \u00fanica manera que tenemos de incorporar mediciones en un procedimiento nuevo, que es lo que estamos haciendo para incorporar la informaci\u00f3n en el Manual de Carreteras,\u00a0 Manual con el que se dise\u00f1an las obras p\u00fablicas en Chile, por eso nuestro socio es el Ministerio de Obras P\u00fablicas, si no tuvi\u00e9ramos este equipo no podremos desarrollar metodolog\u00edas que est\u00e9n basados en estos datos<\/strong>\u201d, puntualiza, Gonzalo Montalva.<\/p>\n
